Astrid Legal vs VXT

Competitor details last checked October 6, 2026

VXT is a legal phone system plus a bot-free desktop notetaker for meetings, and it files notes and time entries to a long list of legal software. Astrid works with the phone system you already have, and drafts a note in your firm's format that an attorney approves before it becomes the record. If you want to replace your phone system with one built for law firms, VXT is built for that. If you want to keep your phone system and add a documented, approved record of client calls, that is Astrid.

What VXT is

VXT Ltd is based in Christchurch, New Zealand, and sells VXT Phone, VXT Team and VXT Meet, mainly to law firms and also to accounting firms. VXT Phone is a cloud phone system for lawyers with desktop and mobile apps, and calls are recorded through it, so using it means porting your numbers to VXT. VXT Meet is the AI notetaker for meetings.

VXT Meet records the computer's microphone and system audio from a desktop app for Windows and macOS. It does not join a meeting as a bot, and its support page says it is not available on web or mobile. After a call or meeting, VXT saves a note and a time entry to the firm's legal software, and drafts a follow-up email that the user reviews and sends.

When VXT is the better fit

  • You want to replace your phone system with one built for law firms, with calls, texts and notes in one place.
  • You want a bot-free desktop recorder for meetings, with a time entry created for each one.
  • You use a system Astrid does not support, such as Filevine, LEAP, Actionstep, iManage or NetDocuments, and you need it covered.
  • You want an independent penetration test already in place.

When Astrid is the better fit

  • You want to keep your current phone system and not port numbers.
  • You use CasePeer, which is not on VXT's list of integrations.
  • You want every note held for an attorney to approve, with the approval recorded, before it becomes the record.
  • You want to record meetings from a notetaker bot or a phone browser, not only from a desktop app.

Questions to ask any vendor

  • Can I see it capture a real phone call from my own phone system, not a recorded demo?
  • What happens to a note before it is filed to the matter or sent to anyone? Who has to approve it?
  • Which case management systems are live today, and what exactly gets filed to each?
  • How are recording notice and consent handled for a state that requires every party to agree?
  • Is my firm's content used to train any model, under what terms, and can that be switched off?
  • Can I use VXT Meet without moving my phone numbers to VXT Phone?
  • For each system I use, does it receive the note, the time entry, or both?

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to switch phone systems to use VXT?

To record calls with VXT Phone, yes. Calls go through VXT's own phone system and numbers are ported to it. VXT Meet is sold separately for meetings and runs from a desktop app. VXT does not say whether Meet can be used without Phone, so ask. Astrid works with the phone system you already have.

Does VXT have SOC 2?

VXT's own comparison page says VXT has none of HIPAA, SOC 2 or ISO 27001. Astrid also holds no SOC 2 or ISO 27001 certification yet. Both companies' security pages say what is in place, and neither replaces your own review.

Does VXT support CasePeer?
