AI meeting notes for criminal defense firms
Consultations, discovery reviews and plea discussions are where your advice is given. Astrid records what was said, files the note, and keeps privileged calls limited to attorneys.
How criminal defense firms use Astrid
Plea discussions
The offer, the exposure and the client's decision, written down with the date.
Discovery reviews
What you walked through with the client and what they said about it.
Calls with the prosecutor
Offers and scheduling noted on the matter right after the call.
The calls Astrid recognizes
Astrid sorts each criminal defense call by type and writes the note in that type's template, set up with you during onboarding from the file notes you already write.
A first call with a person charged with a crime: the charges, what happened, bail, and next steps.
A routine check-in with the client on where the matter stands, with no major new development.
A call reviewing the prosecution’s evidence, police reports, recordings or witness statements with the client.
A call about a plea offer, sentencing exposure or whether to go to trial.
A call preparing the client for a court date, hearing or trial.
A call between the attorney and the prosecutor about the case, an offer or a scheduling matter.
A call where the attorney interviews a witness (not the client) about what they saw or know.
Billable hours
Usually flat fee, so Astrid does not draft time entries for these matters. If you bill some matters hourly, mark them and Astrid drafts time for those.
Sensitive calls
Calls with a client facing charges are privileged. Mark them privileged and only attorney seats and firm administrators can see them. Be careful with calls from a jail or detention line, which are often recorded by the facility.
Frequently asked questions
Does Astrid have note templates for criminal defense?
Yes. Each criminal defense call type gets its own note template, set up with you during onboarding from the file notes your firm already writes. You can change them any time.
Does Astrid draft time entries for this practice?
Usually flat fee, so Astrid does not draft time entries for these matters. If you bill some matters hourly, mark them and Astrid drafts time for those.
How is recording consent handled?
Your firm sets one-party or all-party consent for each matter, and Astrid keeps a consent record for every call. The meeting notetaker and the dial-in both announce the recording.
